Camp Kaitawa is the premium Outdoor Experience Campsite in Hawkes Bay. It is a magnificent facility for groups to use right on the doorstep of Te Urewera National Park. It is run by a trust for the children of Hawkes Bay. Primarily school groups use the camp during term time, and other groups use it during the weekends and school holidays.

Camp Kaitawa is about 45 minutes away from Wairoa, following State Highway 38 inland from Wairoa.

The camp is found on about 1.5 acres of flat land beside Lake Wherowhero, about 1.5km from Lake Waikaremoana. There is a confidence course set up on the southern side of the camp. There is also 4.4 hectares leased for the camp. This includes the Camp Manager's house, the northern and western sides of Lake Wherowhero, as well as the tennis court area.

Te Urewera National Park is very close to the camp, with the Park Headquarters being some 20 minutes drive around the lake to Aniwaniwa.

Camp Kaitawa is the ideal location for caving, fishing, boating, bush walks, pre and early european history, conservation studies, as well as the full range of Outdoor Education activities.

The camp accomodates 56 people in chalets and dormitories. It has a well appointed kitchen, great dining facilities (that doubles as an activities centre), not to mention a modern abultions and drying room
