1. Fire Drill must be practised before the first night in camp. The
camp manager has Fire Warden Duties sheet for you.
2. Restrict the use of children's torches at night. These are for the caves and for emergency use.
3. Running in the building is not allowed.
4. No food or drink in the dormitories.
5. Wet or dirty footwear and wet coats not allowed indoors. Please
use the lines, the drying room or the outdoor cupboard.
2. Confidence course should be used under adult direction.
3. Caves trips should only be undertaken if an experienced guide
is in charge of the party, or if the teacher is thoroughly familiar with
the caves area.
4. Pipelines must not be walked on, tapped with shoes, sticks or stones.
5. Swimming is not advised in the lakes.
6. Any swimming and paddling by pupils must be under strict
supervision and control by the teacher.
7. Eating of any berries is prohibited.
8. Gathering of plant specimens is prohibited in National Parks.
9. Dirty or wet footwear and wet coats must be removed before
entering the main building or chalets.
No smoking is permitted in or on the premises.
Explain boundaries clearly :
dangerous areas, thick bush & scrub, holes in ground, steep banks, deep cold water.
Reminders for day trips (eg. Ngamoko trip) :

Hiring of boats and canoes by school parties is available. Refer to
the notice board in the Dining Room.
Gates must be left as found.
Good relations with the local residents at Kaitawa must be maintained at all times. Private property, stock and hydro equipment must not be interfered with.
National park staff can offer much useful information. You are advised to avail yourselves of their services, but contact them and other resource people at least 2 weeks prior to your camp. See note on Pg 5. The Trust recommends that you take
great care in hiring guides. It is illegal to removal any specimens (dead or alive) from National Parks. radios are available for schools to use, contact Glen Mitchell (Park HQ Manager).
1. Establish and practise procedures for moving on roads and tracks, as well as for stopping and starting. Walking on roads, children should keep to the right in single file, except on blind corners when all should change to the outer side simultaneously.
2. Establish and practise frequent checks that all members of the party are present.
A 'failsafe' suggestion is that a 'buddy' system be run with a 'number off' system.
